- Emissions compliance: Stay environmentally responsible with sensors that meet stringent emissions standards.
- Expert support: Benefit from SKF team’s support.
Why
They determine, in real time, the correct air-fuel ratio of a combustion engine, keeping the right balance between air and fuel for optimal emissions. The exhaust system depends on the oxygen sensor, as improper combustion will damage its components.
Symptoms of a faulty oxygen sensor
- The engine warning light is displayed on the dashboard.
- Car jerks when starting
- Unusually high fuel consumption
- Low engine power when accelerating
- Increased emission of toxic gases
Reasons why a fault may occur
- Internal and external short circuits
- Lack of grounding/voltage
- Overheating
- Deposits / contamination
- Mechanical damage
- Use of leaded fuel / additives
Why its replacement is important
A defective oxygen sensor cannot be repaired. It must be replaced and failure to replace it results in:
- Reduced fuel economy
- Higher emissions and damage to other components (e.g. catalyst overheating)
- It is recommended to replace the oxygen sensors in pairs; both upstream or both downstream, for front and rear oxygen sensors
